OBS setup

Add your Qwiz Live overlay as a Browser Source so it appears on stream.

Always copy the overlay link directly from your room page in the dashboard. The link already includes the settings needed for live updates and transparency.

Add the Browser Source

  1. In OBS, add a new Browser source (or use an existing one for this room).
  2. Paste the full overlay URL from your Qwiz Live room (the one labelled “OBS browser source”).
  3. Set the width and height to match your canvas. 1920 × 1080 is a common starting point for full-screen overlays.
  4. Enable “Shutdown source when not visible” only if you want the overlay to reload when you switch scenes away and back. For most quiz segments, leave it off so the state stays in sync.
  5. Use the “Refresh browser when scene becomes active” option only when troubleshooting a blank or stale overlay. Normally the overlay updates live via the host controls — no manual refresh needed during a quiz.
  6. Apply / OK. The overlay should show the current lobby or state for your room.

Transparent background

The link copied from your room includes the transparent background setting. In OBS Browser Source properties you can also tick “Use custom CSS” if you ever need to force transparency, but the default link is designed to be transparent over your stream background or other layers.

What the overlay shows

The single overlay URL updates automatically as you use the Live Console:

  • Lobby / join screen with room code, QR, and current player count (viewer-friendly wording)
  • Active question with countdown timer
  • Reveal view with correct answer and answer distribution
  • Leaderboard (top N configurable per room)
  • Optional BRB countdown, join QR, or podium reveal scenes

You do not need separate browser sources for each state — one source follows everything you do from the Live Console.

Tips

  • Test the overlay link in a regular browser tab first (with the ?bg=transparent part) before adding to OBS.
  • If the Go Live Check on your room page shows the overlay as connected after ~15 seconds, OBS is receiving the feed.
  • Keep the host Live Console on a separate monitor or scene so you can control without it appearing on stream.
  • Scale or crop the source in OBS if you only want the quiz area and not full 1920×1080.

See the Quick start for the full first-quiz flow, including when to add the source.
